05/05/07: Spiro
I've been collecting the "Great Speeches from the 20th Century" books in The Guardian. I have two favourite speeches neither of which were included in the list. This is my number two, Spiro Agnew rambling on about the "effete corps of impudent snobs". I love the timbre of his voice, it makes it a great speech to cut and paste into mixes. I don't of course love the sentiment behind it! Both him and Nixon eventually got their just desserts, Nixon over Watergate, whilst Spiro was forced out of office on bribery and tax evasion charges.
